SSC Stenographer Selection Process
- Staff Selection Commission conducts a Computer Based Exam for Recruitment of Stenographer Grade “C”(Group B Non-gazetted) and Stenographer Grade “D”, Group “C” Non-Gazetted Posts.
- Selection Process for SSC Stenographer Grade C and Grade D comprises of Written test or Computer Based Test, Skill Test, and Document verification.
Examination Paper Pattern of written Exam:
SSC Stenographer exam consists of two stages:
- Computer-based written test
- Skill Test
SSC Stenographer written exam
- SSC Stenographer written exam is a computer-based exam.
- The exam includes three subjects
- Questions will be of multiple choice questions
- Questions will be asked from Intelligence and Reasoning, General Awareness and English Language & comprehension.
Scheme of Exam of Written Test/CBT:
Details of computer-based examination are as below –

- The question paper will be of Objective MCQ types.
- Questions will be available in Hindi and English except for Part-III.
- Part III of the exam will be available only in English.
- Negative marking of 0.25 marks for every incorrect answer.
Skill Test:
- Applicants have to appear for the stenography test or skill test involving a test of typing.
- They will judge candidates on the basis of speed and accuracy of typing.
Skill test in Stenography:
- Those who obtain qualifying marks in the written exam will qualify for a Skill Test.
- The skill test will involve a typing test.
- The skill test will be based on Stenography.
Stenography Skill Test
- Applicants who appear for the stenography skill test and will be given dictation for 10 minutes in English or Hindi(as per choice) at a speed of 100 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade “C” and 80 w.p.m. for the post of Stenographer Grade “D”.
- You will have to transcribe the matter on a computer.
- You will have to know stenography in both Hindi and English, being a fundamental requirement of the job as a stenographer.
