The selection procedure for the UPSC CDS Exam involves two stages – a written exam and SSB Interview. In the first stage of the selection process for the CDS 1 exam 2019, you need to qualify for the written exam and score above or equal to the cutoff released by UPSC where candidates will be eligible to appear for SSC Interview.

UPSC Selection Procedure consists of three stages.

UPSC Selection Procedure in detail
Written Exam:
- Written Exam consists of Objective Type questions
- Time duration 2 hrs
- Maximum marks is 100 for each subject.
- For applicants who are appearing for Indian Military Academy, NA, AFA written test comprising of English, GK and Elementary maths subjects and for candidates who are appearing for officers training academy the written examination comprising of English and General Knowledge.
- Those who will get declared successful in the written exam will be called for intelligence and personality test based on their first choice, by the respective service HQ.
Interview/ Personality Test:
- Applicants who will be selected in written test are called for interview.
- SSB procedure consists of two stage selection procedure-Stage I and Stage II.
- Only those applicants who will pass the stage I are allowed to appear for Stage II.
Stage I
Stage I comprises of (OIR) tests are Picture (PP&DT).
Applicants will be shortlisted based on combination of performance in OIR Test and PP&DT.
Stage II
- Stage II includes Interview, Group Testing Officers Tasks, Psychology Tests and the meeting.
- These tests are conducted over 4 days .
- Personality of applicants is assessed by three different assessors.
- There are no separate weightage for every test.
- Marks are allotted by evaluator only after taking into concern the performance of students holistically in all the test.
Document Verification:
Document Verification will be conducted only after applicants has qualified for Interview/Personality Test.
Medical Examination:
- Applicants suggested by the SSB will go through a medical exam by a Board of Service Medical Officers.
- Women candidates will undergo Medical Examination by a Medical Board comprising male/ female doctors/ specialists/ Gynaecologist.
- There will be a Lady Medical Officer as member of Board.
- Only those candidates will be admitted to the Academy who are confirmed fit by the Medical Board.
