The competitive exam comprises two successive stages:

1. Civil Services (Preliminary) Exam (Objective Type) for the screening & selection of candidates for Indian Forest Service (Main) Exam; and
2. Indian Forest Service (Main) Exam (Written and Interview) for the selection of talented contenders against the vacancies identified and reported for the Indian Forest Service Exam.

UPSC IFS 2023 Selection Process:

• The process is conducted in stages to extract the best eligible candidates for the respective posts under the Forestry Department of the Government of India.
• UPSC IFS 2023 selection procedure is decided by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
• The selection process of IFS is conducted for all applicants participating in the recruitment process.
• As part of the selection procedure of IFS, you need to clear all the 3 stages of the entrance exam.
• The 3 stages include the Preliminary exam, Mains exam and Personality Test/Interview.

Preliminary Exam:

• IFS 2023 Preliminary exam is the first stage of the selection process.
• The preliminary exam of IFS consists of two papers having 200 marks each.
• As per the selection process, the Preliminary exam has Multiple choice questions (MCQs).
• Mode of exam will be offline (pen & paper based).
• Applicants qualifying in the Preliminary exam are eligible to appear in the Mains exam.

Mains Examination:

• Mains exam is the second stage.
• Applicants qualifying in the cut-off list of the Prelims are eligible to appear for the Mains exam.
• Contenders will be tested on different parameters through the written test comprising of six papers and 1400 marks.
• Candidates who score the minimum qualifying marks in the Main exam are called for an Interview/Personality test.

Interview:

• Personal Interview is the third stage.
• Candidates qualifying in the Mains exam are called to participate in the Personal Interview.
• Applicants in this round will be tested on their personality and their thought procedure combined with their information about the subject matter
• A panel of experts will judge every contender independently taking a maximum of 10 to 15 minutes.
• Total marks for the Personal Interview will be 300.
