Selection Procedure:

UPSC conducts NDA Exam in Two Stages.

  1. Written Exam
  2. Interview

Details of Written Examination and Interview

Written Exam:

  • Exam consists of 2 subjects, Maths and General Ability Test
  • Each subject will be set time limit of 2 ½ Hours
  • Maximum marks for Maths is 300
  • Maximum marks for General ability is 600. 
  • Papers will consist of objective type questions only.
  • Question papers of Maths & Part B of General Ability Test will be set bilingually in Hindi as well as English. 

Interview:

  • Qualified applicants in the written exam will be called for Interview
  • Interview will be conducted by SSB  
  • For Army, Navy Wings & 10 +2 Entry Scheme applicants are required to undergo Intelligence Test & Personality Test
  • On the other hand for Air Force Wing applicants must attend a Pilot Aptitude Test. 
  • Interview Consists both Intelligence & Personality Test.

When to apply?

12th pass can apply , and 12th appearing student can also apply.

Exam for the same will be held in April and September/October respectively.

NDA Eligibility Criteria

  • Male candidates who is more than 16½ years and less than 19½ years of age can apply for NDA.
  • Applicants should be 12th pass, or a 12th appearing students can also apply.
  • Marital Status should be unmarried.

Physical Qualification

Most significant need for an aspirant is to be physically and mentally fit in every aspect.

Tattoos Prohibition

  • Tattoos inside of elbow to the wrist and on the reverse side of palm/back, body tattoos on any other part of the body are banned for the selection.
  • Tattoo on the inner face of forearm will be acknowledged but it should not be very large.
  • Tattoo should not be rude and should fall under the regulations.

Medical Criteria

Weight·         Along with the physical and mental condition, one must have a physically powerful constitution

·         Applicants should have no bodily defects or underweight.

·         Overweight or obese applicants will also be discarded from the selection field.

Chest·         Contenders should have a well developed and Fully expanded chest which should not be less than 81cm.

·         Lowest amount range of expansion should be 5 cms.

·         Contenders are required to present the X-Ray of the chest to encourage that there is no chest linked disease.

ENT (ear, nose, throat and teeth)·         Aspirants must have a normal Hearing.

·         There should not be any evidence of present or past disease of ear, nose and throat.

  • Applicants must have physical test must have sufficient number of natural and sound teeth. 
  • A minimum of 14 dental points will be acknowledged.
  • He should not be suffering from severe pyorrhea.

Abdominal and inner parts

  • Exam of urine will be done, and even a minor abnormality can be the cause of rejection.
  • Applicants should not have any bone or joint mal development.
  • Blood Pressure should be normal with no signs of well-designed or organic disease of the heart and blood vessels.
  • No signs of diseases or injury of the spine or sacroiliac joints.
  • There should not be any earlier period of mental breakdown and fits.

Eyes: 

  • Vision should be 6/6 in better eye and 6/9 in the worse eye.
  • Myopia should not be greater than 2.5 D
  • Hypermetropia not be greater than 3.5 D including Astigmatism.
  • Internal exam of the eye will be done by means of the ophthalmoscope.
  • Applicants should have good binocular vision.
  • Color vision standard will be (CP-III) for Army.
  • Applicants should be able to recognize red and green colors.

Other medical criteria

  • There are some small defects which applicants need to avoid, if he really wishes to reach the next level.
  • Like, Wax (Ears), Deviated Nasal Septum, Hydrocele/Phimosis, Overweight/Underweight, Under, Sized Chest, Piles, Tonsillitis, Gynaecomastia, Varicocele, etc.
  • If any of the given fault are found in any aspirants during the medical exam, then he may be directly discarded, or given 1 month of time to overcome the defect.

  • Original high school and 12th mark sheet
  • Passing certificate.
  • Risk certificate
  • Call Letter of SS
  • Copy of application form.
  • Twenty passport size photo in white Shirt.
  • Original and II photocopies of Any ID proof such as voter ID/Passport/DL/Pan card.
